During his tour, Minister Al-Jasser inspected the development project for Terminals 1 and 2, which aims to increase their operational capacity by 40%. The expansion features larger interior spaces, expanded duty-free commercial areas, additional check-in and passport control counters, extra boarding gates, and an increased rollout of self-service kiosks.
The Minister reviewed the progress rates and operational workflows of the projects against their approved timelines. He noted that the upgrades will raise the combined capacity of Terminals 1 and 2 from 10 million to over 14 million passengers annually while enhancing the traveler experience. He directed teams to intensify efforts in alignment with the National Civil Aviation Strategy.
Minister Al-Jasser emphasized that these upgrades are part of a broader wave of major aviation developments across the Kingdom, backed by the leadership. He highlighted that the master plan for the upcoming King Salman International Airport—launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince—marks a major developmental shift designed to cement Riyadh as a global aviation hub, especially as the capital prepares to host massive international events.
King Salman International Airport is set to become one of the world's largest airports, targeting a capacity of 120 million passengers by 2030, 185 million passengers by 2050, and a cargo handling capacity of up to 3.5 million tons, directly driving the economic diversification goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
