Riyadh: The Ministry of Transport posted the total number of trips on the Kingdom's roads during March, compared to last February which was increased by 21.7%.

The Ministry of Transport developed a new standard is used to analyze the highways by categorizing traffic flow and assigning quality levels of traffic based on performance measure like speed and density. Furthermore, increasing the number traffic monitoring units and link the kilometers signs and Saher System by the accident report.

A new indicator for measuring the Level of service (LOS).

This measure used two methods: the first, is analyzed the capacity of each lane group and estimate the total capacity of the link according to the number of lanes. Then calculate the rush hour traffic percentage in the morning and evening. The second, using the speed to estimate the service level on the basic freeway link. The traffic volume reduced as a result of the traffic jam. This reduces the traffic flow and reduction in the speed and in this case the speed is an indicator to estimate the service level.

The report pointed out the Jeddah-Makkah (Al Haramain) road recorded the highest daily traffic average, registered 99,464 vehicles (91,440 cars and 8,024 trucks). The peak hour was in the morning 8 AM and in the noon 5 PM. Makkah - Jeddah road came second with a daily average of 95,506 vehicles (89,290 cars and 6,216 trucks). The ministry is interested in monitoring the traffic movement and announces the result through its monthly report that shows the average daily traffic on the Kingdom's road network.

This report used to determine the next plan in expanding the construction of a road network according to the traffic density, analyzing the number of accidents and the rate of speed. This will help in prioritizing the high traffic road maintenance.
