MOT official statement on Jazan tragic accident

 


Referring to the unfortunate road accident that took place on Tuesday afternoon, 29 Rabea Al-Akhar 1439 corresponding to the 16th of January 2018, between Al-Kadmi town and Huroob town in Jazan city, the Ministry of Transport presents its deepest condolences to the deceased families, pleading to Allah to have mercy on their souls and hoping for a well recovery for those who are injured.

 

As responsibility toward Allah, the leadership and the society, the Minister of Transport, Dr. Nabil bin Mohammed Al-Amoudi immediately set up a committee to inspect the road and submit a technical report on the causes of the accident. His Excellency also gave directions to put all MOT officials in Jazan region under investigation, along with the maintenance engineer and the contractor to define the inadequacies and held accountable to those who are responsible.

 

The elementary report showed that the truck driver was trying to avoid slippage cracking in the asphalt layer on Houroob- AlKadmi road, which led him to divert to the opposite route while the other vehicle on track. the vehicle driver was trying to avoid the truck that partially returned to its route, but the trailer was still in the lane. The collision led to the death of the vehicle's passengers and the injury of the drivers.

 

The initial report showed the inefficiency of the region's administration work follow up and noncompliance of the maintenance contractor with the directions. Therefore, the Minister decided to deposition the General Director of the ministry's branch in Jazan region, and continue the investigations.

 

The Ministry of Transport confirms that it will continue to carry out its duties in following up the ongoing road projects in all the Kingdom's regions, and it will take all necessary measures towards any inefficient person stressing on MOT essential role in raising the standards of road safety.​​
