New bridges monitoring system in MOT

The Ministry of Transport has held a workshop for BMS bridge management system in Makkah with the presence of engineers and specialists from the ministry and projects contractors. The system is internationally accredited in inspecting and evaluating the bridges and will be used on the region's projects.

 

Eng. Mohamed Al-Anzi, the General Director of bridges and facilities in the Ministry of Transport, said that the features of this system will enable us to make a comparison, an assessment of the bridge condition, calculate the expenses of future budget accurately for five or ten years ahead. The system will help in managing the infrastructure in the Kingdom practically in an engineering and economic approach.

 

The Ministry made this system mandatory for all its contractors to collect the data from the inspection and the evaluation procedures with economic and engineering models for managing the bridges and facilities. The system also includes models for forecasting future defects and the required repairs. It is noteworthy that the number of the targeted bridges and facilities in Makkah is 1200.

 

This system applies international standards using modern mechanisms and mobile laboratories to identify and measure the quality of construction.​
