MOT: 60 Million Road Trips in June

- 60 million trips - a new record for traffic in June.

 - MOT register 329 million road trips in first three months of 2018.

The Ministry of Transport posted the total number of trips on the Kingdom's roads that supplied with a traffic monitoring unit during June which was 60 million with​ increased, compared to the last month (May 3.0%)

With the new rising, the total number of trips on the Kingdom's roads that exceeds 68,000 km, reached 329 million in the first three months of 2018. With now number of the Traffic Monitoring Units rising from 196 units at the first of 2018 to 219 units by the end of last month, an increase of 11% during the first six months of 2018.

The MOT monthly report articulated around three main axes: estimating the service levels on freeway links, the daily traffic report and the traffic accident report. This report comes as part of the Ministry efforts to improve the Kingdom's roads network performance, according to its goal of achieving the best operating, and improving the safety and reducing the accidents.

 

45% of the total number of trips was in Makkah

The report pointed out Makkah is the most traffic region with a total of 25.3 million trips, followed by the Eastern Province with 12.5 million trips and Riyadh with 7.1 million trips.

 

Jeddah - Makkah (Al-Harmain) road is the highest in traffic

As for the report on estimating the service levels on road connections, two methods. First, estimating the service levels for the highest traffic jam on the freeway link based on the size and density. Were Makkah-Jeddah (Al-Harmain) came in the forefront with 2.9 million trips with an average of 92,000 cars and 5,800 trucks. Followed by Jeddah- Makkah (Al-Harmain) road with 2.2 million trips with an average of 66,500 cars and 6,700 trucks then Makkah-Jeddah road with 1.8 million trips with an average of 58,300 cars and 2,500 trucks.

 

Makkah-Jeddah (Al-Haramain) the highest density

Second, estimating the service levels for the highest traffic jam on the freeway link based on the average speed. Were Jeddah-Makkah (Al-Harmain) road with a total of 2.2 million vehicles with a daily average of more than 73,000 vehicles, followed by Tabuk - Madinah road (Second Ring Rd) with more than 1.8 million vehicles with a daily average of more than 60,000 vehicles. Then Madinah - Tabuk road (Second Ring Rd) with more than 1.7 million vehicles with a daily average of more than 59,000 vehicles.

Riyadh entrance from Qassim road and Makkah from Al-Sail road records the highest traffic average

According to the Traffic Monitoring Units, the report pointed out that 75,000 vehicles enter Riyadh from Al-Qassim, and more than 40,000 enter Makkah from Al-Sail road.

 

Riyadh - Bishah road is the highest in exceeding the speed limit

 

The monthly report stated that the speed of cars exceeded 140 km / h and the trucks exceeded 100 km / h. Where Riyadh - Bishah road came in the forefront by 52%, then Al-Howtat - Al-Aflaj by 46% and Najran - Al-Slail road by 45%. The report also showed the highest roads in exceed the trucks the speed limit, where Taif - Makkah road by 97%, and Makkah - Taif road by 90% then Al-Wajh - Umluj road by 81%.

 

The highest traffic average was on the bridge that located in Al- Dwan Tunnel to the west by more than 25,000 vehicles per day than the Exit No. 8 bridge to Exit No. 7 north by more than 24,000 vehicles per day. The traffic average on Al-Oyun - Al-Uqair road exceeded 503 vehicles per day during June 2018.

 

 The main objectives of the Traffic Report to studying and analyzing the number of accidents the rate of speed to prioritizing the high traffic road maintenance. As well as the Ministry expanding the construction of a road network according to the traffic density and enhance road safety.
